Hotel Jackson is nestled in the heart of the quaint but urban town of Jackson, where cafes and boutiques are just steps from our front door. Still, the southern entrance to Grand Teton National Park is only a short 20-minute drive. Yellowstone is one hour from our front door. Jackson Hole is part of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE), an area almost as big as the state of Maine. It includes Yellowstone National Park and the 30,000 square miles of land around it and is one of the largest nearly intact temperate-zone ecosystems on the planet. It also holds the largest concentration of wildlife in the lower 48: bison, elk, moose, grizzly and black bears, more than 350 species of birds, wolves, mountain lions, and fox, among other animals. It is home to more than one dozen glaciers, a supervolcano, the highest concentration of geysers in the world, more than 3,000 miles of hiking trails, and six ski resorts. There truly is nowhere else like it in the world.

Within the GYE, Jackson Hole—a “hole” is what early explorers to this area called alpine valleys surrounded by mountains—is a study in contrasts. It is home to Grand Teton National Park and much of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, yet also the town of Jackson, where both culture and history meet.
